I tried recommending this on the Server 2012 thread, but that post was deleted as the thread was too old - unfortunately, it's also a top Google search result. My reply here may help bump this one higher on the list when others do a similar search, so people get useful content that both works on any version and does not violate your license terms. This can be used on any version of Windows, XP to 10, Server 2003 to 2012 (should also work on 2016, haven't tried it yet), and it's very lightweight. And you can close and reopen your notes, change the text size, etc. I personally prefer the skin. It takes less desk space than the 'prettier' versions, but still has LOTS of options on a drop-down menu.
I need to see the text at a glance, not colorful toolbars. This does require VC++ 2008, which can be downloaded directly from. I use it for quick reference text commands that are only needed on that one server - I can copy/paste complex service-related commands into a CMD box.
Use Sticky Notes 1.0 to create notes right on your Windows desktop. Pin them on top of other windows if you need to keep them visible at all times.
We used Windows 2012 R2 with xenapp 7.14.1. We installed the desktop experience on server and try to publish sticky notes ( we used ). But is not good users experience.
